Kinetic Course

Program Notes

“Kinetic Course” (2022), for brass quintet, was written to accompany an abstract contemporary ballet choreographed by Eli Diersing, entitled “Chit Chat”. The harmonic inspiration for the piece is based on the idea that every tension resolves to a different tension; the tense part of each of the opening chords resolves as it should, but the stable part of that chord becomes unstable. This sort of idea, along with exciting and athletic motives in the brass, continues throughout the duration of the piece.
